NEIGHBORHOOD

Lake Luzerne is where the Sacandaga River and the Hudson River meet and then flow along as the Hudson all the way to New York City. Itinerent native Americans called this area Ti-o-sa-ron-da, “the meeting of the waters”. In about 1760 the first Europeans arrived and in 1792 the original Town of Fairfield was formed which eventually became Luzerne in 1808. “Lake” was added to Luzerne in 1963. Pockets of settlers began to occupy the town, one of which was at Lake Vanare. The village of Lake Luzerne continues as a small (only one traffic light!), quaint, comfortable community.

Today the hamlet of Lake Vanare has lots to offer (but NO traffic lights!) Our Lake Vanare hamlet has horseback riding stables, Warren County snowmobile trails access, restaurants / pubs, the world class Painted Pony Rodeo (with a western saloon of course), Tubby Tubes (operators of white water river tubing), safe walking along local roads, several opportunities for volunteerism – the Double H Ranch is next door, and even a gourmet cheese factory with wine and cheese pairings. Route 9N which bisects the Lake Vanare community is a heavily used bike path and all kinds of hiking opportunities in the Adirondacks are nearby. Easy access to shopping, hospitality and human services make SnowGreen Valley especially attractive to those who wish to escape to the “north country”.
